If you want a one worded answer to your questions, Yes, Metal roofing has a higher upfront cost than composition roofing. However if we dig a little deeper we find that over its lifespan a properly installed metal roofing system will actually make you money over time. Lifespan.
Most composition roofing will only last up to 20 years. That number is of course barring any significant storm damage, or rot, or wind damage, or any other factors contributing to degradation. Metal roofing has been proven time and time again to last in many cases 50+ years. That’s double and in some cases triple the lifespan of a composition roof. So what does that mean to you, in the time your metal roof would sit on your house you could potentially have to replace a composition roof THREE TIMES!
